Expand Resilience
HOW TO HELP CLIENTS EXPAND THEIR RESILIENCE…
Increasing resilience requires a three-fold strategy – mindset, energy and action.
Have your clients tried to handle to challenging situations with greater resilience by trying only one of these factors? What happened?
It’s likely they were not able to sustain their new resilience over time. Try a three-fold approach.

Mindset makes a huge difference in establishing new ways to think about current challenges and changing to new (and perhaps unfamiliar) behaviors.
How do you help your client understand and make changes in their mindset? Give them a model to understand how their perceptions, beliefs, expectations, assumptions and habits impact how they get results.
A great model to use is the Results System™.

How do your clients gain and maintain the energy to be resilient?
In addition to taking care of themselves with adequate rest, good nutrition and personal fitness, clients need to be adding to their personal “fuel tanks” rather than letting them become empty.
We are powered daily by these personal fuel tanks which are called “Core Needs.” They provide energy, satisfaction, engagement and fulfillment for your client.
These represent experiences that we need to have from time to time that add positive energy to our work and life. They include factors like challenge, connection, purpose, collaboration and the like.
Helping your client find their own combination of these Core Needs helps them be intentional in getting them met (or preventing them from being drained).

To make any change in the situations your client faces requires action. Thinking about their circumstances all day without doing something about it goes nowhere.
Sometimes, your client’s resilience is so low, they are stuck in inaction. Helping them remove the barriers to moving forward is usually the first way you can help them.
How can you help your client choose the actions that will get them the new results they want? Help them design actions that not only address the presenting issues but also maintain their resilience.
